What a beautiful tribute to your friend. I love that you shared practical tools and reiterated that the industry can’t just stay static and sad, action needs to be taken. My birthday is 9th November - same as Caroline’s and Jill Dando and whenever I hear or see a story about them it always makes me reflect X
Reading this I can feel your sadness. You need to keep writing like this and make those who need to listen and make change. Make noice because this is what is needed. You are a beautiful person Matt. Writing in times of deep sadness can be so good for the soul. Writing songs too. Keep yourself safe and keep being you. Katy x
Well done and thank you for bravely writing this. I, like many, really loved Caroline without even knowing her. She had a radiant, genuine and authentic presence, with something about her that made her down to earth & relatable, a bit like your best mate.
Watching how the press controlled the narrative around her 'who' she was and 'what had happened', isolating her from her work and wider support network was distressing, even from the outside, I can't imagine how she, her friends and loved ones felt. Such behaviour is synonymous with patterns of abuse, yet it's seemingly justifiable in the media and there needs to be clear boundaries to protect people in the public eye from this devastating behaviour, with consequences for those that push limits.
Not that it really does much but I've never bought printed media since, I won't and teach my kids about the dark side of media & 'gossip'....my own little one person stand.
I think empowering people with Central nervous system regulation techniques can also help but I think anyone in Caroline's particular position would have struggled.
Sending love to you and to the memory of beautiful Caroline 💖
